Middleton Lodge Practice is looking for a trained phlebotomist to work 17 hours over three days under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture and basic observations, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as-required basis. The successful applicant will work with the surgery to complete our mission statement:

Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
1. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
2. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
3. Maintaining accurate patient records on System One
4. The correct labelling, packaging, and storing of samples
5. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
6. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
7. Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Sherwood Forest Hospitals
8. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient-related matters
9. Working within practice policies e.g. information governance and Infection control
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:
1. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
2. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
3. Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
4. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
