The Global Head of Regulatory Affairs (GHRA) reports to the Head of R&D. The GHRA is responsible for managing the Global Product Science Leaders, (Product Sciences, Human Health Sciences and Environmental Sciences). The GHRA will embrace the increased complexity and interdependence among science disciplines that underly Gowan’s selection, development and registration of crop protection solutions. The GHRA needs to have and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities in key regions including US EPA, the European Union and Latin America. The GHRA needs to be well connected to the business and understand Gowan’s commercial priorities and needs. This objective will be achieved by managing, challenging and leading others to create opportunities in multiple scientific and regulatory arenas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervise Global Product Science Leads and Regulatory Managers, lead an informed team who are well connected to business priorities and global regulatory and scientific trends.
2. Lead the group to wisely develop and protect databases to support and defend Gowan’s portfolio and pipeline around the world.
3. Facilitate and advocate scientific underpinnings and aspects of company plans and product specific actions. Work closely with Gowan R&D personnel and facilities around the world to build deep internal product knowledge. Work closely with Development and with Formulations to find ways to identify, develop and execute opportunities.
4. Encourage and facilitate communication and alignment with supply, quality and manufacturing to regularly assess needs and the implications of any changes within product supply strategies.
5. Work effectively with the Regional Ag Relations Functions to communicate, advocate and defend the technical attributes of Gowan Company products internally and externally.
6. Represent regulatory positions and strategies, directly or through delegates on Asset Teams. Work with Business Development to guide new product selection and with Development to synchronize new product advancement. Represent Regulatory on other Gowan Group task forces and key internal projects to improve processes through the business.
7. Own management responsibilities for the group such as budgeting, people development and succession planning.
8. Educate employees and some other stakeholders ( customers) at a layman’s level to understand the regulatory process and the protection it provides to humans and the environment.
Required Qualifications:
9. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in science or a related field. Masters in a science or regulatory discipline or Doctorate preferred.
10. Extensive experience (at least 15 years) in regulatory affairs with a strong focus on global strategy and multi-year planning in the pesticide industry
