Job Description
We're looking for an experienced trackside Tyre Performance Engineer to join our Strategy group! This rare opportunity will see you adding critical value into our race strategy and development in the following ways:
1. Delivering accurate feedback to drivers and engineering teams to enhance performance, ensuring that all tyre related data is communicated effectively.
2. Collaborating with departments across engineering, coordinating with design, tyre science, and trackside operations teams, ensuring clear communication, goal alignment, and the achievement of test objectives.
3. Contributing to tool development and testing schedules (rig and track).
4. Being a primary point of contact between the tyre performance and tyre science groups, driving collaboration in tool and model development and promoting the exchange of knowledge to continuously improve tyre performance.
5. Reporting & Data Analysis: Providing objective and accurate reporting for managerial and technical forums, offering insights and data that drive short and long-term car development.
6. Safety & Compliance: Ensuring that the car is safe, compliant with regulations, and performs optimally at each track event while capitalising on competitive advantages through efficient tyre operations trackside.
Duties include:
1. Race Performance: Supporting the planning, execution, and post-event analysis of tyre performance across all race weekends. Provide up-to-date, accurate information and insights to drivers, engineering groups, and the pit wall during trackside events.
2. Deliver data-driven recommendations for tyre-related car setup to maximise performance in Qualifying and Race sessions.
3. Rotate with other Tyre Performance Engineers, at times acting as the team lead at the track, ensuring that the Tyre Performance Group maintains optimal support throughout the season's expanding calendar.
4. Contribute to the growth and evolution of the Tyre Performance Group, helping to establish it as a vital and effective part of the broader Vehicle Performance department.
5. Utilise your expertise to enhance existing tools and models while contributing new methodologies that can boost car performance.
6. Work closely with the DiL team to provide track related tyre performance insights and assist in simulation sessions.
Who you are:
To be successful in this role, you'll need to be willing and able to travel to a number of race and test events throughout the racing season, and have experience in a trackside environment. You'll need to have exceptional data analysis skills and be a strong communicator.
Other requirements include:
1. A degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, Mathematics or Physics.
2. 2+ years technical experience of high-level Motorsport/tyre engineering/vehicle dynamics.
3. Logical approach to research, problem solving and reporting.
4. Able to support F1 events from both the UK and at the track.
5. Proficiency with Software such as Matlab, ATLAS and VBA.
6. Formula One trackside engineering experience is a big advantage.
