How You Will Add Value: We are now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work with a small team of mechanical design engineers contributing to project specific design / product configuration work following a welcome influx of customer contracts. This includes assembly & detail component design, generation of BOMs and design substantiation (e.g. calculations etc) and working with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements & timescales. The job is full time and mainly based at our facility in Irlam. What You Will Do: Undertakes design of assemblies, sub-assemblies and components using Solidworks 3D CAD systems. Ensures designs are robust by using techniques such as FMEA / design review / DFM & DFS Drive repeatability and standardisation into custom stores projects by utilizing equipment and sub-systems that are already developed and proven. Translates requirements for sub-systems into design solutions (based specifications from customer / lead engineer or line manager. Works with the design team to identify, analyse and resolve project difficulties before they arise. Cooperates closely with other functions in the Hardware design team including Electrical Design, Refrigeration, Systems Engineering. Applies a ‘standard operations’ approach to the design process (e.g. calculation templates) and works with team lead to reinforce & further develop company practices. Expected to keep up to date on technical advances in the discipline and related fields. What You Will Bring: You will be knowledgeable in the use of 3D CAD Modelling (Solidworks preferred), PLM system (Agile preferred) and use of this technology to improve design quality & efficiency. You will have direct experience of documenting design and providing calculations. Working knowledge of lean, continuous improvement tools and techniques. Proficient in IT; Outlook, Project, Excel, Word. Graduate or HNC (engineering, manufacturing, or similar) with mechanical system design experience. Familiar with automation design e.g. pneumatics, motors, gearboxes, bearings, positional accuracy. Can detail design components, add dimensions and tolerances, tolerance stack calculations. Can design assemblies including generation of assembly drawings and BOMs. Can work effectively as part of a team. Can communicate clearly with colleagues regarding design intent, assessment of various design options & problem resolution. Can work with Operations and Test team during build and testing phases. Understands manufacturing methods and designs accordingly. Has worked with PLM systems and understands routing & approval of design documents (drawings, CAD models, calculations etc). Direct experience of generating design calculations. Can document designs. Must be able to use SolidWorks 3D CAD system. Can use Agile PLM system preferred. Must be able to use MS Office tools. Must be able to use MS Teams (including video conferencing).
