Director of Habitats (Senior Project / Contracts Manager)
Location: Birmingham (Kenilworth) or Guildford
Salary: £70,000 - £80,000+ plus package including

Summary
An independent innovative, pragmatic and fast-growing environmental consultancy specialising in terrestrial ecology, freshwater ecology, marine laboratory, habitat management, arboricultural services, geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping, and environmental impact assessments is looking to hire a senior project Management or contracts management professional to take on the role of Director of Habitats to lead their Habitats function and be accountable for its direction, delivery and financial success.
The Habitats teams create habitats for scarce and protected species including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, invertebrates and scarce plants.
They design, create and restore habitats for all ecosystems for private and public sector clients.
Projects have included: construction of artificial badger setts, water vole ditches, bird and bat boxes, herptile hibernacula, ponds, wetland habitat areas, mixed habitat over extensive areas, grasslands and meadows.
They also also carry out countryside management and soft landscaping including tree and shrub planting.
As Director of Habitats you will:
- Provide strategic leadership to, and management of the department holding the team accountable for the delivery of their objectives.
- Be accountable for the department's utilisation, financial performance and standards of client deliverables, delivering year on year financial growth.
- Develop and deliver a strategic approach to winning work. Ensure a focus on proactive work winning across the team. You will play a key role in maintaining relationships with existing clients and developing relationships with potential clients, securing future contracts.
- Drive excellence and innovation in our services.
- Ensure project work is delivered to time, cost, quality and client satisfaction.
- Ensure robustness of technical skills, capability and resilience across the team.
- You will provide best practice advice and recommendations to clients and colleagues, to ensure their projects are able to proceed in line with the latest legislation and policy requirements.
- Ensure the team are aligned with company vision and values.
Candidate Profile
• A background in project / contracts management in an environmental consultancy would be preferable.
• Experience in leading ecological contracting teams (or similar) and departmental budgets
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
• Degree qualified in a relevant subject i.e. Project Management, Habitat management, Environmental Science.
• Strategic leadership experience – setting a departmental plan and leading a team to deliver
• Experience of working on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and with Tier One Contractors.
• Experience in client management, developing new client relationships. Demonstrable network across the sector.
• Experience in business development, creating and progressing opportunities.
• Excellent knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation and policy, and HSQE requirements
• Worked on Habitat Creation / Restoration projects desirable
