ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT (TEMPORARY FT) Finance - Sheffield ABOUT YOU We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team on a temporary basis. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and excellent organisational skills to ensure accurate financial reporting. Ideally you’ll be fully / part AAT qualified, or relevant gained experience in a similar role. RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the sales ledger function, raising invoices, updating the invoice schedule with new contracts and completing all Credit Control tasks - efficiently chasing payments, and escalating invoice disputes where appropriate. Report on cash collection target, submitting an Aged Debtor report to management for review weekly Oversee the purchase ledger function, recording of supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner ahead of month end close. Preparing weekly payment run schedules and setting up BACS payments for approval Reconciliation of all main bank accounts on a weekly basis, ensuring all cash books and bank feeds are accurate and complete Prepare and monitor weekly cash flow forecasts weekly. Reviewing expense claims against company policy for approval. Managing the company payment card system (Spendesk), chasing and posting receipts promptly. Accounting for all subscriptions payments and refunds, investigating membership queries and reconciliation of related suspense accounts. Assist with the preparation of monthly inter-company recharges Responding to internal queries from across the business, retrieving & analysing data from the company accounting system. Undertaking any other work as reasonably requested. OBJECTIVES Manage and maintain the company Sales Ledger, within a proportionate and effective financial control environment. Help to maintain the working capital cycle by issuing customer invoices and chasing outstanding debts; reviewing purchase orders & logging supplier invoices for payment. Help to maintain company risk by carrying out credit checks & maintaining the credit control dashboard. Uphold company spending policy by reviewing expense & travel claims against company policy. Be the first point of contact for queries within the business, retrieving & analysing data from the company accounting system. Be an integral part of the finance team, supporting in the set up of our new finance structure, systems, and processes that drive efficiency, such as the implementation of a purchase ordering system. REPORTING TO Finance Controller SKILLS At least 2 years experience in a similar role is required A positive attitude and desire to improve and learn. Excellent attention to detail and time management abilities Experience in credit control Strong maths skills and familiarity with Accounting Processes. Proficient in using accounting software (Xero preferred) Advance excel user (pivot tables, vlookups) Confident communicator both verbally and written The ability to multitask and work independently as well as within a team.
