The Assisted Living Centre provides and collects equipment and wheelchairs into and from people’s homes and local hospitals. It manages the procurement, repair, reconditioning and decontamination of equipment and wheelchairs.
The post holder will be a specialist in either the repair and maintenance of equipment or wheelchairs, but have general skills to manage both. They will be a team leader, taking responsibility for the leadership of the workshop team which will include the line management of the technicians, liaising with the Administration Team, Lead Store person and Store Manager. They will ensure close liaison with patients, clinicians and other staff members in the team.
They will ensure all technical tasks are completed in a timely manner, including the requesting of spare parts and completing routine maintenance of all appropriate equipment. They will perform all tasks within the workshop as required, delegating tasks and ensuring items issued by the store are fit for purpose and safe. The post holder(s) will be required to work closely with the admin team to organize community visits.
This is a customer-facing role, having daily contact with clients, clinicians and other team members. The post holder will work on a shift basis. Shifts will include weekend and on-call duties. They will occasionally provide leadership and support in other areas in the store i.e. admin and warehouse where required.
The post holder will line manage the technicians, having responsibility for completion of all technical tasks within their area of expertise both planned and routine maintenance tasks and repairs. They will work closely with other team leaders in the store, supporting and liaising to ensure all essential tasks within the equipment service are completed. They will provide line manager cover and support during periods of sickness or annual leave. They will be responsible to the Store Manager, updating them regularly and raising any concerns.
As the team leader, they will induct, train, support and supervise all new technical staff, using competencies to ensure appropriate skills levels to deliver a customer focused service. The Calderdale Framework will be used as the basis for competencies. They will delegate tasks to those with appropriate skills, ensuring the best use of capacity available, prioritizing during times of need. They will perform annual reviews and supervision with their team, working closely with the Store Manager and being proactive in celebrating success, enhancing the teamwork within the store.
The Lead Technician will work within a competency based framework to manage a workload of equipment and wheelchairs to be maintained, repaired or set up for use. They will perform activities that are complex and/or non-routine including problem solving where required.
