Head of ERP Platforms
Location: Royston, UK - flexible with hybrid working
Please note that this role is the same role that is available in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Johnson Matthey IT (JMIT) is Johnson Matthey’s global IT function which is at the centre of the company's strategy to catalyse the net-zero transition. JMIT provides core operational IT services which power our business and are working in partnership with our business units to develop future technology and business services.
Currently, our IT organization is undergoing an important transformation towards becoming a more agile, innovative, and customer-centric entity. The new role - Head of ERP Platforms - has been created as part of the wider IT Engineering team reporting to the Engineering Director.
As the Head of ERP Platforms, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our organization. You will be responsible for the strategic leadership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of our enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Overseeing a team of engineers and third-party providers, you will ensure the effective delivery of ERP services that meet stringent service level agreements (SLAs) and compliance standards. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving the development and implementation of innovative ERP solutions that support our evolving business needs and contribute to our overall financial success.
YOUR MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy and Planning
1. Develop and drive implementation of platform level strategy and roadmaps to ensure alignment to JM product requirements
2. Identify and implement the engineering model best suited for the platform based on current business context and available resources
3. Work with Architecture to develop and maintain the technology roadmap for the platform
Platform Leadership
1. Lead the overall technology team for the defined set of platform technologies
2. Demonstrate the art of the possible and drive adoption, to leverage the platform to its full potential
3. Accountable for providing an operational service to agreed service levels; create strong working relationships and processes with the IT Operations team to ensure there is an end-to-end service
4. Identify, sponsor and deliver maintenance activity and efficiency opportunities for the platform
5. Manage effectively any supplier contracts associated to the platforms
6. Accountable for the financial management of the relevant budgets including driving ongoing efficiency savings
7. Develop and maintain technical documentation such as design specifications, test plans, and implementation plans
People and Process Leadership
1. Line manage the platform team providing effective people management, coaching and development support.
2. Work with the other line managers and the Engineering Director to create a strong team culture, performance management approach and career development opportunities
3. Build a strong talent pipeline through hiring, internal movements, succession planning, talent reviews
4. Design training and upskilling opportunities for engineers working on the platforms
5. Develop and maintain software engineering processes, standards, guardrails and best practices to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality software products
Stakeholder management & Leadership
1. Work closely with Product and Delivery teams to drive engineering coding methodology/ plan for the platform
2. Work closely with leaders from other platforms to support in the development of products that sit across multiple platforms
3. Act as a bridge between engineering teams and stakeholders to understand business requirements and technical needs working closely with architecture
Culture & Innovation
1. Infuse a sense of ownership and pride amongst team members to deliver high-quality, self-managed work outputs
2. Institute a self-directed and high-performance culture in the team
3. Enable a culture of continuous improvement and learning, by coaching team members and role-modelling self-development
4. Drive contribution and use of innovative, re-usable stacks to improve efficiency and pace
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE
1. Extensive experience in leading technology platform to deliver high quality operational and change services
2. Strong experience in ERP technologies, in particular SAP and/or MS Dynamics
3. Experience in leading and developing a team of engineers
4. Previous experience in managing significant budgets – both operational and change
5. Capabilities to develop and maintain platform roadmap
6. Experience in building teams, ways of working with processes and culture
7. Experience in effectively managing legacy services
8. Strong people influencing skills and stakeholder management skills
Key Competencies & Personal Skills:
1. Able to facilitate change, demonstrating ownership, collaboration, adaptability, business, financial and commercial acumen, high impact communication, customer focus, comfort with ambiguity.
