JOB OVERVIEW
As the Assistant Nurse, you will support the Head Nurse in providing high-quality medical care and treatment to students in accordance with the School’s Medical Care Policy. You will play a vital role in promoting student well-being, managing health-related issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of the School’s Health Centre. This role will report into the Head Nurse.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Care and Support
Assist the Head Nurse in assessing students’ health needs and providing appropriate treatment.
Administer medication as prescribed, following established protocols.
Perform triage to determine the urgency and nature of students' medical needs.
Manage and maintain the sick bay, ensuring cleanliness and comfort, including bed changing and arranging meals and drinks for unwell students.
Emergency and On-Call Duties
Participate in the on-call rota alongside the Head Nurse to provide out-of-hours support.
Cover for the Head Nurse during periods of annual leave or absence.
Health Centre Operations
Maintain accurate and confidential records of student health information.
Order, stock, and store medication safely in compliance with regulations.
Monitor and maintain medical supplies and equipment.
Assist with data entry and record keeping as required.
Student and Staff Communication
Respond promptly to telephone calls, emails, and other forms of communication from staff, students, doctors’ surgeries, and other external agencies.
Arrange medical appointments, including doctors, dental, and optician visits, and accompany students under 16 to appointments as needed.
Safeguarding and Professional Conduct
Treat students with dignity and respect, fostering positive and supportive relationships.
Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures to protect students’ well-being.
Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an inclusive attitude in all interactions.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Relevant healthcare qualification (equivalent to Band 5 Nurse or NVQ Level 4) or currently working towards it.
Training in First Aid, Opus Online Medical Training, and Health Training.
Demonstrated experience in a healthcare or medical support role.
Strong IT skills, including proficiency with medical record systems.
