An opportunity has arisen for a Junior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist to join our team.
This job is primarily based at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath for 37.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
* To work as an autonomous practitioner; to assess and provide treatment of a caseload of patients, who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, and to form a diagnosis and develop treatment programmes, and to maintain records.
* To have workload managed by senior staff and work under supervision of senior staff, with access to a senior member of staff or manager at all times.
* To assist senior staff in the supervision and teaching of physiotherapy assistants and undergraduate physiotherapy students, and be involved in the teaching of staff from other disciplines.
To undertake evidence-based practice, and participate in departmental research, service development, and audit.
To adhere to Trust policies and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Conduct, Health Care Professions Council Code of Conduct and be guided by National Standards where they exist to develop departmental policies and best practice care.
To actively promote and develop equality and diversity practices and strategic management in this area in order to promote equity of access of care for patients and equity of access to job opportunities and development opportunities for staff.

Job responsibilities
1. To adapt communication with patients who have communication and understanding difficulties e.g. dementia, learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairments, non-English speaking patients and encourage all members of the team to do likewise.
2. With guidance from senior staff assess capacity to give consent, gain informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment such as patients who have dementia, learning difficulties or who are acutely confused.
3. To persuade, motivate, empathise, reassure, explain and encourage patients in undertaking their treatment programme, ensure understanding of their condition and communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential.
4. To demonstrate ability to clearly communicate complex and sensitive information to staff, patients and carers with guidance from senior staff. This may include explaining diagnoses or prognoses about long-term / permanent disabilities or chronic pain, where an educational and counselling role is required to be developed with guidance from senior staff.
5. To be able to diffuse potentially hostile and antagonistic situations with staff, patients, and relatives using negotiation and interpersonal skills.
6. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
7. To maintain close links and work collaboratively with all staff and people involved in patient care and uphold good working relationships at all times.
8. To represent the physiotherapy department in good standing within the trust and external agencies e.g. GPs letters.
9. Ensure timely communication with the team leader on all professional matters.
10. To report verbal/formal complaints, incidents and accidents to physiotherapy management as soon as possible, document according to trust policy and support investigations into incidents and complaints as appropriate.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma in Physiotherapy or BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or overseas equivalent.
* HCPC registered (or equivalent body).
* CSP Member.
Experience
* A range of clinical placements during physiotherapy course.
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Evidence of relevant CPD and reflective practice with an up-to-date portfolio.
* Involvement in carrying out clinical audit/service development.
Skills
* Able to plan and prioritise own workload.
* Ability to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner, including patient records.
* Ability to communicate effectively with different types of people, including those with communication difficulties.
* Able to utilise a range of treatment skills such as joint mobilisation, exercise prescription and therapeutic handling.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with physiotherapy and multidisciplinary teams.
* Able to handle sensitive and contentious information regarding staff and patients.
* Give presentations to physiotherapy colleagues and audiences of a mixed professional background.
