At Smiths Detection, we are at the forefront of security and detection technology, helping to safeguard global trade, travel, and defence. As our Trade Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our UK operations meet the highest standards of export control, customs regulations, and government compliance.
Your Impact:
* Lead UK Trade Compliance – Own and manage all trade compliance matters, ensuring full adherence to UK export/import laws and MOD regulations.
* Authority Liaison – Be the primary contact for UK government agencies, including HMRC, ECJU, and the UK MOD.
* Licence Management – Oversee all export control licences, including MODF680 & MODF1686 applications, and use platforms such as SPIRE & LITE.
* US ITAR & EAR Compliance – Ensure compliance for US-controlled products and manage re-export licences via BIS SNAP-R.
* Audit & Regulatory Excellence – Manage internal and external audits, government visits, and regulatory reporting.
* Process & Policy Champion – Keep policies up to date, train stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in compliance processes.
What You'll Bring:
Expert Knowledge – Strong understanding of UK export regulations, MOD requirements, and US ITAR/EAR controls.
Industry Experience – Proven background in trade compliance, customs, or export controls.
Technical Skills – Experience with SAP (GTS system preferred) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Attention to Detail – Analytical mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving.
Communication & Leadership – Confident in engaging with government bodies, senior management, and cross-functional teams.
Security Clearance Eligibility – Due to the nature of the role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
