The Medicines Specialist Pharmacist for Weston General Hospital is an important part of the team managing the services at Weston General Hospital, within the wider UHBW.
Main duties of the job
* Maintain and develop clinical pharmacy services to the Medical Division including outpatients, front door and other medical wards at Weston General Hospital.
* Liaise with the relevant senior pharmacy, medical and nursing staff to promote safe and effective use of medicines within the Medical division.
* Provide information and support to the Medical Division on drug usage and expenditure and work with senior clinicians in the directorate to maximise clinical effectiveness of medicines used and minimise cost.
* Develop, with senior clinicians in the directorate, a robust medicines related audit programme.
* Participate in the training of pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, undergraduate pharmacists and other pharmacy and NHS staff.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
* Independent prescribing qualification, or currently working towards attaining.
Knowledge and Experience
* Good Clinical Pharmacy knowledge as expected from a Master's Degree course (or equivalent) and from one year's training as a Pre-Registration Pharmacist.
* Understanding of the role of responsible pharmacist.
* Experience of secondary care medicines management systems.
* Experience of undertaking project and/or audit work.
* Understanding of confidentiality and how to apply.
* Demonstrable experience of multi-disciplinary team working.
* One-to-one or small group teaching.
* Experience of staff training, assessment and performance management.
* Hospital Pharmacy Experience.
* Experience of managing/supervising other pharmacy staff.
* Demonstrable achievement in planning and service development or continuous quality improvement.
Skills and Abilities
* Good influencing skills required for communication with a wide range of healthcare professionals and external partners and suppliers.
* Good verbal and written communication skills to enable effective communications with patients, their carers/relatives, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
* Ability to identify problems and find solutions to them.
* Use of pharmacy IT systems.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and complete work on time.
* Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own and others' work to meet agreed deadlines, including managing work rotas.
