Do you have a passion for helping vulnerable young people with complex needs and behaviours, empowering them to overcome barriers to learning?
Fresh Start in Education are looking for experienced and person-centred SEN Learning Support Assistants, with a background in complex needs, to work with a non-verbal teenage young man with autism and learning, communication and sensory needs.
Based in Weymouth, Dorset, this role involves planning and delivering learning and engagement activities at early years levels, as well as providing communication, emotional and behavioural support. Knowledge of PECS or Makaton is desirable. You will be working alongside other professionals who will providing different aspects of care.
The placements
* Working with your student on a 1:1 basis in their residential home, alongside support staff
* Each 15 hour placement involves planning and delivering a 3 hour session, 5 days per week, during term-times only
* 2 placements with students available – possibility of one person taking on both (6 hours per day, 5 days a week)
* Bank Staff worker – providing provisions as and when they arise, paid via PAYE
What you need to apply:
* Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience working with vulnerable children or young people with additional needs (SEN, SEMH needs and other barriers to learning)
* Experience delivering or supporting numeracy, literacy and communication skills in creative, practical and engaging ways
* Knowledge of PECS or Makaton is desirable
* A commitment to keeping children and young people safe and a practical and up to date knowledge of safeguarding
