Job summary This is a position due to increased demand for general trauma and shoulder &elbow surgery. The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing consultants to provide a complete elective and emergency orthopaedic service. He/she will be expected to have an interest in general trauma including upper and lower limb trauma service, all aspect of shoulder and elbow surgery especially complex upper shoulder trauma, shoulder and elbow arthroscopy and arthroplasty surgery including revision arthroplasty service. To support and further develop the management of patients accessing the service, the post holder will be expected to work with a team of trauma surgeon as part of 7 days trauma service. This requires knowledge, experience and expertise in undertaking general and complex trauma surgeries. Main duties of the job It would be expected that the appointee will undertake a minimum of 8.5 programmed activities for direct clinical care and 1.5 for supporting duties. Normally these are expected to be carried out on site, though this may be negotiable in respect of the supporting activities. The job plan is annualised and run over an twelve-week timetable. The department workload and planning often requires a degree of personal flexibility. The final timetable will be agreed between the successful applicant and the Clinical Lead and Service Manager following appointment. Any further changes to the job plan must be for the betterment of the service and have the full support of the specialty division together with the Medical Director's agreement.
