An excellent opportunity to work for a leading client within the science and technology industry, we are currently recruiting for a R&D Scientist to work as part of a high performing team who specialise in the development of display technology materials working with some of the world leading brands.
The role will be based at their Research Labs in Southampton and will be on site 5 days per week. The position will be heavily hands-on and lab-based and will be responsible for presenting data and research back to stakeholders and your team.
Liquid Crystals, Polymer Science, Reactive Mesogens, and material science are favourable.
We are looking for a passionate, motivated team player to join a well-established team who will offer excellent support, advice, and guidance.

Role Responsibilities:
* Experience in measurement of physical properties of samples (viscosity, VHR, UV/Vis transmission) and films (retardation profiles, extent of polymerization, surface energy determination, film profile, film hardness, adhesion, blocking resistance, durability).
* Passion for Science and Technology.
* Being collaborative and flexible is a must.
* Being results-driven by making informed decisions and being accountable.
* Technical background in Liquid Crystals, Polymer Science, Reactive Mesogens, and material science is favourable.
* Ability to accurately prepare RM mixtures and RM solutions in a traceable manner.
* Ability to handle complexity in a multi-national environment with different stakeholders and in different technology fields like AR/VR, Lenses, LIDAR, and Holography.
* Ability to prepare RM films from these solutions using various coating techniques to prepare form +A / +C / ND +A / ND +C / CLC films; experience in preparing coatable polarizer films is favourable.
* Willingness to perform hands-on lab work in an agile environment.
* Ability to prepare technical reports and have the skills to present these to customers.
* Develop and implement innovative solutions to technical problems in the field of Digital Optics for AR/VR.
* Carry out a range of non-routine technical tasks to solve problems of moderate complexity to produce RM films and their characterisation.
* Interact proactively within a range of internal technical functions / selected customers.
* Develop innovative new materials, IP, and technical opportunities.
* Measure the physical properties of RM solutions and films using specialised techniques.
* Active involvement of other Experts.
* Ensure planned work is carried out according to project deadlines.
* Accountable for the quality of own work.
* Frequently achieve technical breakthroughs.
* Provide non-routine reports and present to the project team, enabling clear and accurate reporting of results.
* Take responsibility for equipment and safe use of the lab environment around them.
