We are a Protective Hair Technology company bringing innovation and efficiency to the beauty industry. We are funded by the investors and founders behind incredible consumer companies such as MongoDB, Beats Electronic, and Zola. Our founders are serial entrepreneurs that have brought successful hardware products to market and bring experience from Apple, Rivian, and Amazon Robotics.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our first product is an AI-powered hair braiding robot that helps stylists reduce braiding time from hours to minutes. Our product is nearing the end of R&D and we are growing the team to shift into product development.
As the Lead Design Engineer at Halo Braid, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering our innovative hair braider to market. You thrive in a startup or fast-paced environment, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are key. You enjoy rolling up your sleeves to create critical engineering solutions while prioritising user needs. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic founding team and collaborate across Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Hardware.

We are currently based in Boston, Massachusetts working in the Harvard Innovation Lab and growing a team in the UK.
YOU HAVE
* 5+ years experience with CAD (Solidworks preferred). GD&T a plus
* Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, and attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills: an ability to clearly convey design ideas and brainstorm
* Crafted and tested proof-of-concept models and prototypes in the R&D stage
* Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) & mass manufacturing methods
* Experience with gear design and linkages, and moving mechanisms
* Mass manufacturing methods (injection molding, CNC etc.)
* Rapid prototyping and manufacturing methods (3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting)
* Worked with Industrial Design to incorporate user needs, ergonomics, and aesthetics
BONUS IF YOU HAVE
* Experience with consumer electronics, robotics, or hair styling tools
* Technical expertise with mechatronics components such as sensors, motors, electromagnets
* Experience with design optimization using FEA/CFD simulation
* Hair styling tools
