The vacancy
As the Assistant Finance Manager, you will support the Transactional Finance Manager in overseeing the day-to-day activities of the transactional finance team. This includes managing accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions to ensure the accuracy of monthly and yearly accounts. You will also be responsible for maintaining fixed asset records and managing project funding and related expenditure.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership: Develop and mentor a team of three transactional finance staff, ensuring their training and development.
2. Financial Processes: Ensure appropriate processes and controls are in place for financial transactions, including credit and collection processes.
3. Compliance: Adhere to the Group’s Financial Regulations and accounting standards.
4. Data Management: Maintain accurate and timely financial records.
5. Process Improvement: Enhance and create better working practices and system management.
6. Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Ensure timely and accurate completion of balance sheet reconciliations.
7. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
8. Ad Hoc Support: Provide support for the Director of Finance as needed.
Essential Criteria:
9. Qualifications: Ideally completed or studying towards an AAT Qualification. Educated to degree standard with a proven record in maths.
10. Experience: Previous financial experience in a large business. Comprehensive understanding of Sales and Purchase Ledger operations. Previous team leader experience.
11. Skills: Previous accounts experience including AP/AR and banking functions. Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure. Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
