We are seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director who thrives in environments where resourcefulness and innovation are essential to success. You will be leading our financial operations during a critical period of organisational transition and improvement.
What we need in this role is an action-oriented leader who can bring expertise in finance and will also be a confident leader who can challenge existing ways of working, introduce fresh ideas, and hold senior stakeholders accountable for delivering meaningful change to delivering better outcomes with existing resources.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Financial Leadership
1. In partnership with the Corporate Finance Director and Finance Transformation Director, develop and implement a clear vision and roadmap for Finance, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.
2. Drive financial strategies that create maximum value, ensuring the right processes, systems, and capabilities are in place within budget constraints.
3. Provide expert financial advice to the executive team and board, supporting sound decision-making.
4. Oversee financial budgeting, forecasting, and reporting to enhance financial performance and sustainability.
5. Challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement across the function and wider business.
2. Business Partnering & Change Leadership
1. Develop and implement an effective business partnering model that integrates finance professionals within operational teams to provide valuable financial insights.
2. Inspire confidence in financial strategies, helping stakeholders understand financial performance and the impact of their decisions.
3. Role model proactive business partnering, fostering a culture where finance partners challenge assumptions, drive efficiencies, and support strategic decision-making.
4. Develop a structured roadmap for transformation, focusing on practical and achievable improvements.
5. Try new approaches, ensuring finance is a driver of innovation and efficiency.
3. Financial Operations & Governance
1. Oversee key financial processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with organisational policies.
2. Lead programmes to improve financial efficiency and transparency, ensuring best practices are adopted despite limited systems and automation.
3. Monitor the impact of financial decisions, using data to drive improvement.
4. Implement communication strategies to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
4. Financial Governance, Compliance & Process Excellence
1. Ensure robust financial controls and effective governance structures are in place across the organisation.
2. Maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.
3. Present clear, data-driven financial reports to the board, audit committee, and external stakeholders.
4. Identify and manage financial risks proactively.
5. Work with the risk management team to ensure financial risks are embedded in the broader risk framework.
6. Develop approaches that mitigate financial risk without requiring large-scale system investments.
7. Lead with confidence, fostering a culture of accountability, adaptability, and performance.
8. Provide training and development support to enhance business partnering capabilities.
9. Encourage innovation and pragmatic decision-making in financial management.
10. Demonstrate how improvements can be made within existing resource constraints, inspiring a mindset of continuous improvement.
Essential Skills & Experience required
1. Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
2. Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role within a resource-conscious organisation, adept at optimising financial performance with existing systems.
3. Track record of implementing and leading a business partnering model in a complex organisation.
4. Strong strategic thinking and a willingness to take calculated risks.
5. Exceptional leadership and change management skills—capable of inspiring confidence, challenging resistance, and introducing new ways of working.
6. Ability to see beyond immediate barriers and focus on long-term transformation within tight budget constraints.
7. Experience leading financial improvement initiatives and managing large-scale change.
8. Familiarity with regulatory requirements relevant to financial operations.
9. Knowledge of financial management systems and workarounds in low-tech environments.
10. Ability to build belief in solutions and a clear pathway to success, despite resistance.
11. Commitment to delivering value for money and enhancing stakeholder confidence.
