Band 8a Database Administrator (permanent role)
UHNM has a strong record of successful internal developments, in particular a notable success with its clinical portal supporting timely access topatient information for doctors. IM&T are able to offer a fantastic opportunity to join the Software Development team and work with both with otherIM&T teams as well as passionate clinicians in driving forward technology to support their clinical decision-making.
The post holder will develop and maintain multiple databases to support the development of the Trusts in house developed systems, as well as support the business critical patient care systems for the organisation, that are key to maintaining the continuity of the Trust's business and operational processes.
Liaises with third party suppliers and staff across all levels of the Trust in the planning, design and development of highly complex database system solutions.
Main duties of the job
1. To create and manage databases including Table management, procedures, views, indexes and triggers
2. Working with database software to find ways to store, organise and manage data
3. Troubleshooting
4. Keeping databases up to date
5. Helping with database design and development
6. Managing database access
7. Designing maintenance procedures and putting them into operation
8. Ensuring that databases meet user requirements

9. Liaising with programmers, applications/operational staff, IT project managers and other technical staff
10. Managing database security/integrity
11. Implementing security measures
12. Defining objectives through consultation with staff at all levels
13. Testing and modifying databases to ensure that they operate reliably
14. Archiving data.
15. Able to run basic traces using SQL profiler
16. Create and maintain existing SQL jobs

Qualifications
Essential
17. Educated to Degree in a computer related discipline, or equivalent work experience
Desirable
18. Evidence of continuing professional development, either academic ( MSc) or in an industry standard qualification ( MSCD).
Knowledge, Skills, and Training

19. Knowledge of indexing
20. A logical approach to investigating, analysing and resolving data and programming problems.
21. Communication of highly complex information to users at all levels internal to the organisation and with external clients, suppliers and vendors.
22. Ability to accurately estimate task durations, organise and prioritise own workload and to provide a timely and accurate service
23. Excellent computing keyboard skills and proven experience in using SQL Management studio
24. An understanding of how applications/systems integrate and work together.
25. Knowledge of modern relational database design and implementation
26. Knowledge of data privacy laws and in particular NHS IM&T policies and procedures.
