With our commitment to innovation and precision engineering, it is an exciting time to join our business. CMbE offers you the opportunity to grow and develop your skills in an expanding industry.
About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer, based at our Head Office in Shipley. Although limited, occasional travel is required for this role.
Your mission in CMbE
This role will predominantly work with Die-Sets but must be flexible to work in other areas. The successful candidate will act as a deputy for the Lead Engineer, working together with them to ensure maximum performance and output from the team. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead by example for other Mechanical Engineers by showing their commitment, quality of work, and urgency to ensure OTIF deadlines are met. They promote the “triage” approach to issuing machine and equipment orders, by a clear understanding of the business priorities. This role is responsible for interpreting customer specifications and designing machines specific to their requirements, producing all 3D models and associated 2D manufacturing drawings, and generating BOMs to enable the on-time in-full issuing of all parts into manufacture using an MRP II system. This role is also responsible for providing technical support and information to all areas of the business, and to CMbE’s global customer base.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate a quality, health, safety, and environmental-oriented mind-set. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to, re-designing and continually developing existing parts/equipment to ensure the company maintains its competitive edge; working with Lead Engineers to ensure machine design complies with all CE, legal, and regulatory requirements; and creating and adhering to ESOPs to support best working practices within Engineering, and to prevent quality-related issues. The ideal candidate will be able to provide Project Management support for larger scale and complex orders, investigate problems related to mechanical aspects of designs, and initiate corrective actions. Experience in generating customer product request forms to support machine PDI’s and creating accurate BOMs for orders is essential, as it determines the Manufacturing and Supply Chain function’s work schedule. The candidate will clearly communicate any late BOM changes, taking ownership to resolve the issue to ensure customer expectations are met and the company’s reputation is protected.
Essential to this role is knowledge of Siemens NX CAD (Solid Modelling and drafting / 3D solid modelling package); BS8888 Standards; and manufacturing processes to ensure component and assembly drawings are designed for manufacture and cost-effectiveness. Extensive 2-piece can-making experience specializing in metal forming/finishing and Can-making machinery/Can-making process knowledge is desirable.
The successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project/OneNote).
About you
Candidates must hold a formal technical qualification to degree level, or equivalent, in a Mechanical Engineering discipline. Candidates must have at least 3 years’ experience working within a Mechanical Engineering role. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills to convey technical information with various stakeholders; together with strong verbal and written skills, problem-solving skills, the ability to work effectively within, and across, project teams, and be highly organized with a high level of attention to detail. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a methodical approach, with strong time management skills. The successful candidate will be a strong team player, inspiring others with their keen interest and understanding of engineering principles.
