Transport Planner/Operator

General Overview
We operate a variety of delivery vehicles Nationwide as part of Pallet Networks and offer Groupage Services and Storage as part of the full package. Our primary objective is to deliver a quality service, making deliveries safely, securely and on time, and responding to the needs of our customers in a professional and timely manner. We have a strong reputation and strive to recruit quality staff to maintain it.
Due to our continued growth we need to recruit an additional member to join our busy traffic office team, within a role of Traffic Operator/Planner. Liaising with drivers, customers, delivery depots and other members of the team at all levels to ensure the overall success and cost effectiveness of our daily transport operation.
Job Responsibilities
1. The main part of the role is cost effective & efficient traffic planning for a fleet of approx. 20 trucks using Pallet Network planning software, in accordance with driver/resource availability & legislation.
2. Answer incoming/outgoing telephone calls of all nature from/to customers, collection/delivery points, other transport depots & drivers to include; ETAs; Collection queries; Delivery queries; Returns; Refusals; Re-routes; Incidents/issues.
3. Report changes/delays/traffic updates/demurrage to customers promptly.
4. Operate an outlook email account efficiently to ensure swift responses to customer & depot emails and team communications.
5. Maintain & update jobs and messaging with other depots within the Pallet Network systems.
6. Issue drivers’ documentation, communicate shift start times and manifests/run details.
7. Label printing and assisting the warehouse operations.
8. Debrief drivers, check documentation accuracy and address any errors.
9. Involvement in projects or tasks required of you for continual improvement or in line with industry legislation.
10. Continually strive to meet and exceed KPIs, reduce costs and increase profitability.
11. Follow legislation, H&S, company policies & best practices always.
Experience Required
(The below experience is preferred however training would be provided to the right candidate where required)
1. Experienced in traffic planning & management of drivers.
2. Experience with Pallet Networks and their systems.
3. Shift handovers.
4. Briefing and de-briefing drivers.
5. Good knowledge of tachograph legislation.
6. Experience with handling customers/customer service.
Skills Required
1. Good IT skills to include Outlook & Excel.
2. Effective and confident communication skills.
3. Excellent geographical knowledge (preferred but not essential).
4. Excellent attention to detail.
5. Ability to stay calm under pressure.
6. Prioritising work to meet time deadlines and maintain service levels.
7. Ability to think logically & make decisions/solve problems quickly.
8. Positive can-do attitude and happy to work flexibly and as a team.
9. Ability to work partially unsupervised at times.

Shifts
(Shifts may rotate on a weekly or 2 weekly basis – flexibility is required)
Early 05:00 – 14:00 Monday to Friday
Late 09:30 – 18:30 Monday to Friday
Full-time permanent role 45 hours per week including 30 minutes break (42.5 contractual hours). Due to the nature of the company’s business, we are considering shift rotation to encourage training and job share, your working hours will not necessarily coincide with those normal hours stated above, so a flexible approach to this is required.
Salary Range
£26 - 32k per annum depending on experience.
