Role Overview
The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) is home to a diverse, global community of over 6000 undergraduate, postgraduate and research students supported by over 300 colleagues, and a hub of discovery and innovation. It was formed in 2018 from the unification of three smaller Schools to provide opportunities for interdisciplinary working across its broad academic offer, concentrating around the built and natural environments. Drawing on an academic portfolio from Architecture to Zoology, our multidisciplinary approach is designed to shape the next generation of scientists, engineers, urbanists, and climate leaders. The School’s strategy to reinforce a strong international record for high-quality, research-led teaching is enabled through a university-level strategy that facilitates the engagement of industrial partners in the design and delivery of our taught programmes. This role, within the Biology & Wildlife Subject Area and part of the Human and Natural Science (HANS) Directorate, is to support and enhance the student experience of authentic, real-world knowledge and practice.
The Biology & Wildlife team delivers a range of well-respected programmes at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, which carry accreditation by the Royal Society of Biology. Current undergraduate teaching is centred around Biological Sciences, Marine Biology, Wildlife Conservation, and Zoology. At MSc level, taught provision currently includes a degree in Wildlife Conservation. The REF 2021 results are a testament to our high-quality research, with the majority of our submitted outputs judged to make important contributions to the international field (26% judged to be world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigor).
The School now wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow based in the Biology & Wildlife Subject Area who will strengthen our team by sharing our passion for providing a high-quality learning experience for students. We would be happy to receive applications from individuals with a relevant academic background who wish to draw on this experience to contribute to the education of students in the area of ecosystem conservation. Such expertise could involve, but is not limited to, the management of biodiversity in aquatic and/or terrestrial ecosystems subject to environmental change. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students on a range of programmes and modules (including the supervision of dissertations), and will be responsible for their administration and assessment.
