Here at Serco, we are looking for an experienced leader and People Manager to join our team at HMP Thameside as Learning & Skills Manager. You will be responsible for delivering functional elements of the Contract, in line with Service Specifications and Prison Service Instructions. Reporting to the Head of Education, Skills, and Work, you will work within the Education, Skills and Work Management team.
You will ensure your area of responsibility functions efficiently and effectively, adhering to all local and national regulations. You will promote, develop, and coordinate all learning and skills activities, including education, vocational training, physical education, and library services, to provide a comprehensive program for all prisoners.
You will also be expected to:
* Manage the Prison Education Service (PES) and non-PES including industries, vocational training, and purposeful activity support.
* Assist in planning and implementing quality assurance frameworks.
* Coordinate Self-Assessment Reports (SARs).
* Collaborate with resettlement services and other units to encourage continued learning post-release and ensure appropriate Offenders' Pathways are arranged.
* Maintain relationships with funding bodies like the Learning and Skills Council.
* Prepare materials for internal and OFSTED audits.
* Contribute to prisoner reports, including ACCT and parole reports.
Qualifications and Experience
This demanding role requires outstanding leadership, motivation skills, and the ability to manage complex processes and multiple projects within strict deadlines. Essential qualifications and experience include:
* A relevant Management Qualification for a Senior Manager (e.g., CMI Level 4 or equivalent) or significant managerial experience in a custodial setting.
* Experience and understanding of prison education.
* A relevant Degree.
