Power Systems Engineer 6 Month Contract Initially Outside IR35 London - Hybrid working 1-2 days per week from home Company Overview General Description includes electrical design and power system analysis of assigned deliverables in a project including specific complex deliverables such as power generation systems, substation & power distribution systems and lighting & grounding systems. Work includes, among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, voltage drop calculations, specification development and electrical single line diagrams. Maintains and promotes a focus on end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control. Job Requirements Provide Electrical Engineering services on Energy projects, including Offshore Wind Farms, with project report to the Principal Electrical Engineer. Is able to make sizing calculations of electrical equipment and components. Is able to prepare electrical specifications for materials and simple equipment. Is able to contribute to offshore and onshore integration of renewable energy Check the work of peers, Engineers and Graduate Engineers prior to transmittal to clients. Submits work for checking by others in the Electrical Engineering Team as assigned by the Principal Engineer. Proficiently use power system simulation and analysis tools: PSSE,ETAP, DigSILENT etc. Co-ordinate and analyse outputs from power systems in spreadsheets and/or visualisation tools. Carry out power system studies - Load Flow analysis, Short Circuit, Protection Coordination, Voltage Stability, Reactive Power, Harmonic, Compliance Studies etc. Good understanding of power system modelling and analysis Good understanding of the UK Grid Code and EU Grid Code Working knowledge of Transmission & distribution networks (from Low Voltage to Extra High voltage) Analyse equipment data, prepare calculations, and single line drawings Must be able to determine the detailed aspects of an electrical distribution system. Present work to clients regularly in a neat a concise manner. Desirable to be conversant with hazardous area concepts, equipment and area assignment and classification. Pro-actively resolve design problems with vendors and third parties. Report on a regular basis to the Principal or Project Engineer on work progress, input requirements, work holds and potential resolutions. Shows flexibility and ensures proper hand-over with regards to: The reassignment to other departments. The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays. The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also other projects) when possible/desirable.
