Solar Technician – Renewable Energy Sector, Truro. Build Maintain Recruit require O&M Engineers to join a progressive Operations and Maintenance provider seeking a further electrically biased Technician to join the team on the South Coast. Door to door travel, with ample opportunities for onward growth and development, joining the Uks largest O&M provider. We’re looking for a skilled Solar Technician to join an industry-leading team specializing in the operations and maintenance of utility-scale solar PV plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS). About the Role, As a Solar Technician, your key objective will be to ensure that solar PV plants and BESS operate safely, efficiently, and effectively, achieving outstanding performance standards while adhering to budgetary requirements. This field-based position involves both planned and reactive maintenance duties across various sites, with occasional on-call weekend duties as part of a rota. The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified electrician with experience maintaining MW-scale power plants and hold DC and HV electrical competencies. Day to day, Health & Safety: Adhere to and promote the highest safety standards, continuously improving safety protocols across all sites. Operations & Maintenance: Perform planned inspections, testing, and maintenance of AC/DC systems, inverters, and plant equipment. Fault Diagnosis & Repairs: Troubleshoot and resolve issues on sensors, communication equipment (e.g., RS485, Ethernet, fibre optics), and other systems. System Configuration: Update firmware and configure computer-based devices and components. Subcontractor Management: Supervise subcontractors, ensuring safe working practices and high-quality outcomes. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate maintenance logs and produce detailed reports. Travel: Travel between sites and offices, occasionally staying away from home for training or site coverage (up to one week). What you’ll need to succeed, Fully qualified electrician. Inspection and testing qualifications (e.g., C&G 2391 or 2394/5) are highly desirable. Comprehensive understanding of solar PV technology. Strong technical knowledge of AC/DC systems, SCADA, instrumentation, and communication networks. Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities. Ability to read technical manuals and schematic diagrams. Full UK driving licence. Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS) and First Aid certifications are beneficial.
