What's involved with this role: Interim Senior Lawyer x 2 - Litigation & Planning Job Ref: Devon 5259021 Pay Rate: £43.12 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 5pm Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3 months City: REMOTE WORKING - Exeter, Devon Please state expected pay rate on your CV Basic DBS required The Litigation & Planning team is seeking two experienced local government lawyers with experience of two or more of the following areas: civil litigation, criminal litigation, planning and highways. We are looking for an individual with excellent written and verbal skills with substantial experience in their area/s of expertise. Local government experience is essential. Candidates must be willing to learn new areas of law to be able to provide fast paced legal advice on a range of topics. Key Responsibilities: Oversee and manage a caseload in an area of law allocated. Respond to requests for advice, representation etc. Manage all aspects of court representation as required. Advise and/or present to courts, meetings, members at formal appeal hearings or as required by the County Solicitor. Any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be assigned by one of the Legal Service managers. Qualifications: Educated to degree level. Law Society admitted and Solicitor Regulatory Authority registered solicitor, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives or Bar Standards Board registered barrister. Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. A thorough knowledge of that area of law, good advocacy skills and considerable experience in case management is essential along with demonstrable experience of working in a particular field. Adequate experience of managing own workload. Ability to absorb and interpret legislation, case law and procedures. Ability to assimilate detailed and complex information and make judgments on the way that certain procedures have been followed. Excellent communication and presentational skills both verbal and written including influencing and persuasion. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
