The appointee will join a team of 5 existing consultants who currently deliver a mixture of inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine services for the Trust. Due to the changing dynamics of chronic disease management, the structure of the consultant team is under continual review to facilitate an efficient interface between primary and secondary care.
This post will aid us in formalising and standardising a new model of delivery of care for inpatient general medicine with a special interest in diabetes and endocrinology.
The appointee will NOT have a commitment to the acute general (internal) medicine on-call rota; however, in the unlikely event this is desired by the appointee, this can be negotiated with the Chief of Medicine at a later date.
Job Purpose
You will be expected to:
* Support and deliver specialist services in Diabetes and Endocrinology for both in-patients and outpatients.
* Help develop guidelines and care pathways to ensure the highest standard of specialist/generalist care is delivered.
* Be involved in teaching undergraduates on placement and doctors in training.
* Provide specialist input to in-patients both on the diabetes ward and throughout the Trust.
* Support educational activities of the department.
* Deliver inpatient and outpatient diabetic foot care as part of an MDT.
