As an SFA/ Scrub Nurse, you will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary theatre team providing a high standard of nursing care and safety for patients within the theatre unit. In addition to this, you will also actively contribute to the maintenance of an environment that is conducive to the delivery and promotion of a high standard of patient care. The post holder will adhere to professional and national standards and work in a patient-focused way, delivering a service that is safe, effective, and efficient. Job responsibilities
1. Discuss and agree with colleagues capabilities and competencies in general and perioperative care practice across the team.
2. Compare current perioperative practices, trends, and developments against appropriate benchmarks.
3. Explain clearly to patients whose needs are being assessed own and others' responsibilities and how they inter-relate.
4. Identify people's health needs through observation, discussion, and the use of technical assessment methods; obtain informed consent prior to the commencement of the assessment.
5. Collect, collate, and organise data, interpret all of the information, and make a justifiable assessment relating to patients' perioperative needs, promoting their wellbeing and reducing risks in the short and long term.
6. Provide advice and support on assessment approaches and conclusions to colleagues and others, proactively and on request, with particular focus on perioperative interventions.
7. Develop evidence-based perioperative practice and be an exemplary role model.
8. Obtain informed consent prior to implementing patients' perioperative care.
9. Promote patients' rights and wishes, explaining to colleagues particular aspects which may be prejudiced during the process.
10. Assist in the management of haemostasis and define the factors requiring specific attention for patient safety and risk management.
11. Identify surgical anatomy and establish physiological factors and operative techniques that relate to specific operations in which the SFA assists.
Person Specification
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years experience working in theatre.
* Competent to scrub for Gynaecology, General, Plastic and Orthopaedic surgery.
* Experience of working within private healthcare.
