The City of Mitcham is seeking a Senior Financial Coordinator to play a key role in managing
and improving their financial transactional processes. This is a fantastic opportunity for a
motivated individual with a strong accounting background, leadership experience, and a desire
to contribute to meaningful community outcomes.
About the Role
As the Senior Financial Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
● Leading the financial operations team, including financial reporting and process improvement projects.
● Providing technical financial support to internal stakeholders through business partnering.
● Participating in Council’s financial statements, budgets, and statutory reports.
● Business Partnering with the Community and Organisational Services division.
● Managing and reviewing internal control systems to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
● Overseeing accounts payable, receivable, and treasury functions.
● Mentoring and coaching a high-performing financial operations team, fostering continuous improvement and innovation in financial processes.
● Collaborating with auditors and ensuring accurate, timely reporting.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
● A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, or Business, with CPA or CA accreditation (or working towards).
● Demonstrated experience in budgeting, business partnering, financial analysis, and financial reporting.
● Strong knowledge of accounting standards, the Local Government Act, and internal control procedures.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
● Advanced communication skills (verbal and written) as well as negotiation skills and problem solving skills.
● Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and influence stakeholders and foster a collaborative team environment.
Desirable Skills:
● Experience in Local Government, State Government or a similar environment.
● Experience in working with Technology One
Reporting Relationships
● This position reports to the Team Leader Finance.
● The position works closely with Team Leader Finance, Finance Business Partners, Accounting Officer (Creditors) and Accounting Officer (Financial Services), Managers and General Managers.
● Direct Reports (2 FTE) Accounting Officer (Creditors) and Accounting Officer (Financial Services).
