CNC Machinist (6 month FTC)

About the Role
This opportunity is to cover off-peak activity for a likely duration of 6 months in the form of an FTC to be based out of our Ampthill site. The work will allow you to work within a CNC precision machine shop environment as a skilled CNC Miller.
You will be working within a CNC precision machine shop environment, programming, setting and tool selection, proving out and operating multiple machine tools including multi-axis machining centres with various programming languages (3 to 6 axis) to produce R&D, high value 1 off or low volume production component parts.
* Support and input to the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture design.
* Ability of tool selection/optimisation and design liaising with tooling suppliers.
* Mentoring and training of others which may include apprentices.
* Working to specifications, procedures and engineering drawings.
* Develop and improve work procedures/processes with engineering team.
* Problem solve machine issues and facilitate corrective action plans.
* Ability to prioritise workload in order to meet deliverable commitments and support production schedule to optimise machine utilisation.
* Demonstrates high quality standards and support improvement initiatives.
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
* Ability to work from detailed engineering drawings producing conforming product.
* Competent CNC Milling experience. Turning experience will be desirable.
* Ability to program/post process using Fanuc & Heidenhain languages.
* Understanding and execution of CAD/CAM software.
* Conversant with multi-axis machining methods (3 to 6 axis).
* Good knowledge of inspection techniques and measuring equipment.
* General engineering workshop practices and proven manufacturing experience.
* Ability to work from written and verbal process instructions.
* Ability to work independently from concept through to manufacture.
* Adherence and accountability of Housekeeping and 6S standards within defined work area.
* Adherence to mechanical and manual lifting processes.
* High level of CoSHH and H&S awareness.
* Competent computer skills including MS Office, MRP systems.
* Good communication and reporting skills.
