Reporting to: Regional Operations Manager
Your role
The Operations Manager is responsible for cost, output, quality, service, health and safety, environmental and legal compliance, mill performance, logistics, and customer service. You will work with the Operations Director to develop a business plan for manufacturing and logistics to meet objectives. Your role includes motivating the site leadership team, promoting staff engagement with the strategic vision, and ensuring compliance with legislation, health and safety, environmental, and energy standards.
Your Responsibilities
Business Unit Plan
1. Develop a Business Plan outlining departmental objectives and tasks.
2. Address cross-functional issues such as logistics, order lead times, late orders, load size, credit control, etc.
3. Utilize all resources effectively, including operations, engineering, transport, sales, administration, and finance, fostering cross-functional relationships.
4. Plan maintenance and capital expenditure aligned with the budget.
5. Establish a maintenance plan to uphold company standards.
6. Manage raw materials and finished product inventories to prevent stock loss and devaluation.
7. Minimize working capital use by controlling stock levels.
Commercial
1. Achieve EBITDA targets set by the Business Unit.
2. Conduct regular reviews to optimize liaison between sales, manufacturing, CSD, and logistics for cost-effective solutions.
3. Provide feedback on raw material quality, performance, and delivery.
4. Plan raw material procurement to prevent stock outs.
5. Manage resource deployment, expenses, and operational costs within budget.
6. Coordinate manufacturing and logistics strategies with the Operations Director.
7. Oversee capital expenditure to ensure budget performance.
People Management
1. Create training and development plans for staff.
2. Manage, motivate, and develop employees to meet business objectives.
3. Develop succession plans for key personnel.
4. Maintain appropriate staffing levels and quality.
5. Monitor and address absenteeism.
Health, Safety & Environment
1. Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with procedures and statutory requirements.
2. Work towards environmental compliance with permits and ISO standards.
3. Encourage safety practices among employees, visitors, and contractors.
4. Conduct regular audits for UFAS standards and legislation compliance.
Public Relations
1. Maintain and promote the ForFarmers brand image.
2. Engage with key accounts and industry influencers.
Your Profile
Essential:
* Experience in a similar environment or role.
* Knowledge of manufacturing and logistics.
* Management skills and a drive for improvement.
* Proactive, results-driven, team-oriented, IT literate.
* Strong communication, decision-making, and organizational skills.
Desirable:
* Living within 30 miles of the mill (preferred but not essential).
