Who You Are
* Substantial experience and understanding of the role and functions of Building Control.
* Sound knowledge of the Building Regulations, Approved Documents, allied legislation, and enforcement procedures.
* BiCOF Registration: Minimum Class 2D in respect of Plans assessment and site inspection.
* Computer literate, experienced user of Microsoft Office suite.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle complex enquiries and complaints.
* Ability to undertake site inspections and work at height or in confined spaces.
* Clear and precise written and oral communication skills, with an ability to listen to and influence others.
* Knowledge and understanding of best practices, new innovations, and developments in the industry.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and keeping CPD records up to date.
* Awareness of relevant Health & Safety legislation to ensure personal safety and safety of junior staff.
* Desirable: Experience of court proceedings.
What the Job Involves
* Undertake assessment of building works and applications for compliance against Building Regulations and associated legislation.
* Conduct site inspections to ensure building regulations are being adhered to.
* Protect public safety by assessing and acting on dangerous structures, unauthorized works, and obstructions to the public highway.
* Instigate enforcement procedures against non-compliant building works in line with Building Control and Council’s policies. Prepare necessary reports.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, principal designers, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation and codes of practice.
* Work efficiently within statutory timescales as directed by service provisions and key performance indicators.
* Assess and analyze basic structural calculations and details submitted.
* Contribute to productive and efficient team working as an integrated member of the Building Control Team.
* Maintain precise and contemporaneous records.
* Consult with internal and external organizations and communicate findings with relevant stakeholders.
* Provide reasoned advice and responses to elected members, applicants, and other stakeholders on Building Control matters.
* Comply with all relevant corporate policies and procedures including Health & Safety, GDPR, Corporate Governance, and Code of Conduct.
