Rare Opportunity with Veterans Charity Our client is a leading welfare charity and facilitates the provision of help and support for ex-military personnel and their eligible dependants who are in need of assistance. Part of that help is providing support through advocacy. This covers two areas: Firstly by ensuring our beneficiaries receive all statutory care services through the Local Authority and NHS. Advice is given on all aspects of community care law and representation provided. Second by providing assistance to beneficiaries who have housing issues. This includes homelessness, eviction, disrepair, and allocations. They provide advocacy in the areas of housing and community care through negotiating with statutory bodies, drafting written submissions and attending hearings and tribunals, as necessary. This is an office-based role and can also involve travelling to provide representation at appeal hearings and meetings. Willingness to work flexible hours, outside of traditional office hours, when needed to secure outcomes. The role holder will secure statutory rights and funding, whether or not there is a defined need for financial assistance from then charity, and will work with welfare executives in processing applications associated with the provision of care and disability equipment and adaptations where the absence of statutory funding is creating distress Working within a team of welfare executives, you will have responsibility for identifying the need for representation among those seeking assistance. The successful candidate will need to have significant current experience of providing specialist written and oral advocacy support to individuals and assisting them with appeals processes. An articulate communicator with IT skills suited to working in a paperless environment, you must be able to demonstrate an ability to relate to people of all ages, especially vulnerable beneficiaries, in a manner which is conducive to relieving stresses and concerns through giving sound and impartial information, guidance and representation. Qualifications - Essential Law degree or Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) Undertaking or completed the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) or Legal Practice Course (LPC) Desirable Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Practical knowledge of housing or community care law. Significant advocacy experience on behalf of vulnerable clients, including evidence of successful outcomes. Working in a law centre or charity advice service. Experience of writing representations, complaints and responses Experience of managing own caseload. Experience of appeals hearings and tribunals. Excellent IT knowledge, including Outlook, Word and Excel. Deciding and Initiating Action – making prompt, clear decisions involving difficult assessments, working under own direction. Persuading and influencing – analysing data, probing for further information and making rational judgements from the available information and analysis. Presenting and Communicating information – speaking clearly and fluently, expressing key points, projecting credibility and undertaking presentations with skill and confidence. Writing and reporting – writing clearly and succinctly, in a well-structured and logical way. Applying expertise and technology – applying specialist knowledge and developing expertise through continual professional development. Planning and Organising – managing time effectively, meeting deadlines and prioritising workload. Relating and Networking - establishing good relationships with colleagues, beneficiaries and external contacts, relating well to people at all levels.
