Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors by adhering to Health & Safety regulations, local and national policies, procedures and standards. Surgically scrub for Cardiac and Thoracic surgery, assist the surgical team for safe and effective surgery. Maintaining correct counts in accordance with policy and act as the patients advocate. 3. Responsible for ensuring accurate patient documentation is maintained at all times, with due regard for legal aspects, confidentiality and management of information requirements. Ensure correct labelling, handling and transportation of patient specimens according to Trust policy. Assist in the management of the clinical area including the development and supervision of staff and monitoring of adherence to Trust and Directorate policies and procedures, the NMC/HPC codes of Professional conduct and other statutory requirements. Encourage and support a learning environment, which meets the needs of all students and staff members working within the area. Demonstrates the ability to act as a role model and mentor to other members of the multi-disciplinary team. 8. Actively participate and assist in clinical audit and research programmes and to promote proven research based practice, which is clinically effective. 9. Maintain own personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the service 10. Assist the Practice development team by providing practical and clinical guidance and providing lectures when necessary. 11. Ensure the appropriate and effective use of instrumentation and stock levels within the operating department at all times, identify shortfalls and bring to the attention of a senior member of the team. 12. To deputise in the absence of a team leader, in the area of responsibility, by co-ordinating staff according to skill level and resources to effectively achieve a safe and effective delivery of care.
