Job overview
We are looking for experienced registered dietitians to join our department bank, to help support our service as required. This may include covering vacancies within the department during the recruitment process.
You will cover a range of inpatient wards within our hospitals, areas that may be included are renal, critical care, gastroenterology, general medicine, trauma and orthopaedics, surgery, and oncology. This will allow you to maintain and enhance your clinical skills within an acute setting.
There may be an opportunity for some outpatient sessions depending on the role we are covering.
Main duties of the job
1. The cover various inpatient ward areas as required, liaising with MDT team members, dietetic staff, and catering staff. The caseload will be varied depending on the needs of the department and skills of the dietitian.
2. Carry an independent caseload within designated areas.
3. Support new registrants, learners, and dietetic assistants as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To support the dietetic service at UHNM in both in and outpatient settings. This involves providing highly specialist nutritional treatment plans for patients with a range of complex conditions which may include oncology, surgery, gastroenterology, and renal services as complex nutritional issues.
2. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing a clinical specialist nutritional support dietetic service. To manage, plan and develop dietetic treatment programmes. This involves assessing the nutritional status and requirements of complex and critically ill patients and giving dietary advice/recommendations including use of oral nutritional supplements, enteral and parenteral nutrition as required.
3. Delivers specialised dietetic services to patients, using a wide range of appropriate and sensitive communication skills and counselling, and behaviour change techniques. Uses analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret, analyse, and evaluate complex information from a variety of sources e.g. medical notes, diagnostic tests, clinical investigations, and information from patients and carers.
4. To work alongside consultants, specialist nurses, and ward staff to provide specialist nutritional treatment plans as part of holistic patient care.
5. To provide individually tailored advice for patients.
6. To educate patients and their relatives/carers about their condition and its significance and ensure that care information and support is available.
