Safety Health & Environment Manager

Objective of the position:
To develop and maintain a health and safety and environmental management system and provide a support service to line management to ensure safe systems of work are in place and complied with, and to ensure full legal compliance of the company in safety health and environmental matters for the UK Plant.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. To develop and maintain a health, safety and environmental management system.
2. To provide advice on matters of health safety and environmental requirements to all levels of line management in a proactive manner.
3. To ensure all accidents / incidents / unsafe acts and conditions are reported, recorded and fully investigated to determine root cause. Where applicable to report such instances to the HSE under RIDDOR requirements.
4. To provide a supporting service to line management in a hands-on approach to comply with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
5. You will also be requested to work outside of these hours as and when required by the needs of the business.
6. To ensure that all personnel within each department adhere to safe working procedures, and that these are reviewed and updated as necessary.
7. To ensure that risk assessments for all known hazards are in place and maintained.
8. To ensure that all employees are suitably trained to carry out their work safely without risk to themselves, others or the environment.
9. To keep the management team updated on requirements of and changes to legislation under health safety and environment.
10. To provide performance reports and set targets and objectives for improvements and risk reduction.
11. To determine and arrange any required monitoring for health safety or environmental purposes.
12. To ensure health safety and environmental issues are communicated suitably to all staff.
13. Provide the Plant Manager Director with weekly and monthly reports that highlight:
1. All accident / incident occurrences.
2. All identified risks which aren't controlled.
3. Departmental performances on SHE.
4. Personnel issues.
14. Ensure the Plant Manager Director is kept informed on all key issues.
15. In line with other management level posts within the organisation, this role will undertake general investigations and/or disciplinaries meetings as required.
Required skills, abilities, knowledge:
1. Relevant Industry Health & Safety qualifications and accreditations (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, relevant subject university degrees).
2. Proven track record in managing site health & safety issues at a senior level and advising management and responding with appropriate actions.
3. Action Skills: Enjoys working hard; is “actions” oriented and full of energy for the things he/she sees as challenging.
4. Technical Skills: Has a sound functional and technical knowledge of production processes.
5. Technical Learning: Picks up technical things quickly; can learn new skills and knowledge.
6. Problem Solving: Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions. Looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answer.
