Automation Engineer

Overview:
We are recruiting an Automation Engineer for a well-established Automotive manufacturer based in Bolton. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in PLC programming, process automation, and production engineering to design and implement automated systems that enhance production efficiency. You will collaborate with equipment suppliers and continuously improve production systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement automated processes to optimize production efficiency.
2. Analyse production processes to identify and apply suitable automation technologies.
3. Develop and refine equipment and processes to maximize automation potential.
4. Collaborate with equipment suppliers to ensure designs prioritize safety, quality, and efficiency.
5. Diagnose and resolve issues in automated production systems.
6. Manage investments in equipment with clear ROI identification.
7. Support quotations and investment planning for new business opportunities.
8. Oversee project budgets, spare parts, and related expenses.
9. Work with Production Engineering and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth handover of automated processes to production.
10. Implement and enhance production systems, processes, and machinery.
11. Stay current with trends in engineering technology and production processes.
12. Develop and execute plans for process improvements.
13. Introduce efficiency improvements in machine and production processes.
14. Implement Just-In-Time (JIT) activities and support design changes and new technologies.
15. Follow APQP standards for project implementation.
16. Create and manage engineering documents like FMEA and control plans.
17. Task Production Engineers with line improvements.
18. Plan optimal process flow and work methods to maximize output without compromising quality.
19. Set targets for project activities and monitor outcomes.
Qualifications:
1. Proficiency in PLC Programming and Fault Finding (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Keyence, etc.).
2. Experience with PLC systems and automated production processes.
3. Knowledge of robotics, pneumatic, and mechanical systems in production.
4. Strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with RCCA and formal problem-solving techniques (e.g., SGA, DMAIC, PDCA).
5. Experience with production engineering documentation (FMEA, process flow diagrams) in line with IATF standards.
6. Knowledge of OEE, planned maintenance, and spares control.
7. Ability to implement project schedules effectively.
8. Experience with capital investments for equipment.
9. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
10. Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
11. Experience in electronics and/or automotive manufacturing is preferred.
12. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
