You will work in a team repairing and maintaining the fleet of heritage Diesel traction and other rolling stock belonging to or operated by the N.Y.M.R. and work in line with maintenance policy and plans to meet the needs and demands of the timetabled services on a busy operating heritage railway.
Main duties
Diesel fitting to maintain a fleet of heritage locomotives for the operational needs of the N.Y.M.R.
Working on restoration projects and locomotive rebuilds.
Bench fitting tasks as required.
Both working to drawings and taking measurements from locomotives including monitoring wear.
Overhauling and assembling valves.
Working and fault finding on diesel, oil, electrical and air/vacuum systems.
Examine locomotives to Network Rail standards.
Perform fitness to run exams on locomotives.
Day to day running repairs and routine maintenance and adjustments.
Working on other vehicles and projects as required by the N.Y.M.R.
Working with on-site plant and machinery.
Person Specification - Essential
Experience working as a mechanical fitter or mechanic on heavy plant or Diesel engines in a rail, agricultural, power station or workshop environment.
Apprentice trained/Level 3 in Engineering
Person Specification – Desirable
Higher Level Engineering.
Telehandler Licence
Working hours during the Operating season (April to October) including some weekends and Bank Holidays as part of the duty fitting team. (Rotating, non-consecutive shifts – 7 days on early shift- 5 am to 1 pm - Sunday to Saturday: 5 days on day shift – 7 am to 3 pm or 9 am to 5 pm – Monday to Friday – could have 2 or 3 consecutive weeks of day shift; 7 days on late shift – 12 noon to 8 pm – Sunday to Saturday). During Winter maintenance, working Monday to Friday 7 am to 3 pm or 9 am to 5 pm.
