We're on the lookout for a Countryside Ranger to join our well-established client based in Oxford
About the role:
Working with the Countryside team to manage sites with a wide range of habitats and wildlife, including a Country Park and sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI’s), using knowledge, skills and experience to develop these sites to their full potential.
To utilise skills and experience, as part of the team, to achieve the highest standard of work .
Provide excellent customer service in the delivery of the service, including working in Oxford City Council’s owned and managed properties, private customers, and in parks and urban spaces, as appropriate and as requested.
The business is based out of Cutteslowe Park
About You:
Formal horticultural qualification or significant skilled horticultural and landscape experience
Full valid UK driving licence
Able to undertake physically demanding work and able to work where chemicals have been used
Ability to work on own initiative. Flexibility with start and finish times, able to work an annualised hours schedule and able to work effectively as part of a team
Experience in horticulture and grounds maintenance work and use of horticultural machinery and able to undertake physically demanding work
The details:
Work with Community groups NGO and statutory agencies to manage the sites in a sustainable way.
As a representative of ODS, respond to members of the public, customers and other stakeholders in a professional manner, ensuring high standards of customer care.
Demonstrate best practice in practical countryside management.
Carry out a wide range of habitat and access works on site.
Adhere to the agreed management plans and work within the guidelines set out.
Work with a wide range of hand and power tools such as Chainsaw, Brushcutter, Mowers (NPTC units).
Management of invasive species (PA1, PA6AW).
Offer support across the Parks Team and contribute to the Ecological improvements within the City’s formal Parks.
Participate and contribute to an ethos of teamwork and flexibility within the team and assist with the training and support of new and temporary/agency members of the team, in particular ensuring new colleagues undertake safe working methods.
Undertake all duties, including driving company vehicles, in accordance with ODS standards, which include Quality Assurance schemes, work instructions, manuals and work specifications, health and safety requirements /safe working procedures and employment policies. Ensure fitness to work at all times and report promptly any issues that may compromise these standards. Ensure prompt recording of all associated documentation.
Seek to continuously improve landscaping knowledge and standards and contribute to maximising commercial opportunities.
Working Hours:
Between 7:30am to 16:30 Monday to Friday (please note times may vary to earlier starts or later finishes as required)
Salary £13.75per hour
