Advanced Research Engineer - Additive Manufacturing
We are looking for an Advanced Research Engineer to join our Additive Manufacturing Team based in Coventry.
The Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) role is focused on the technical delivery of projects and support the development of project related activities across The MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Activities will include:
1. Being largely independent supply of larger project's technical deliverables, and act as Technical Lead for smaller projects where required; ensuring work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, within agreed budgets and timescales.
2. Undertaking innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and able to demonstrate industrial project delivery.
3. Contributing in the identification, technical specification and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial members premises.
This role will require involvement in all aspects of the project delivery including but not restricted to:
4. Concept generation
5. Detailed design
6. Ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning
7. Awareness of project budget and deliverables.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who is/has:
8. Degree calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician.
9. Ideally working towards professional registration.
Essential experience/skills for the role:
10. Relevant technical experience with a range of Additive Manufacturing processes spanning both polymers and metals (laser powder bed fusion) in industrial and/or academic settings.
11. Downstream processing of AM parts including post-processing, finishing, inspection, and testing
12. A good understanding of material/process interactions within Additive Manufacturing processes
13. Experience of engineering problem solving driven by a customer/end user’s requirements
Desirable experience/skills:
14. Design for AM methodologies and generating build files for a selection of AM processes (including support strategies)
15. In-process monitoring technologies for AM
