Who we are looking for:
We are seeking to appoint a School Appeals Clerk on a permanent basis to join our existing School Appeals Team, dealing with school admission appeals and independent reviews received by the Council.
You will play a vital part in supporting the wider School Appeals Team with key administrative functions around school appeals and independent review panels, and you will help with the planning, coordination and running of these.
Fulfilling the role of an appeals Clerk, you will be expected to work within the statutory appeals, admissions and equality legislation, and ensure compliance with these. This will include preparing documents for the hearings and decision letters in line with legislative expectations and timescales, ensuring accurate records are kept when clerking and providing support and advice to schools and panel members around these both in advance of a hearing and during where necessary.
With the other Clerks you will be a point of contact for appellants and their representatives, panel members, schools, and other relevant teams in the Council.
To be successful in the role:
You will have relevant administrative experience, and knowledge of school admission appeals and exclusion reviews, and school admission procedures. You will also have a good understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018 principles, and how they would be relevant to this role.
You will be a confident and effective communicator, and able to work with a range of people involved in Hearings, including appellants, school representatives, panel members and solicitors. You will have good IT and written skills, and good planning and organisational skills.
You will be comfortable working collaboratively within an established team, as well as being confident to work independently. You will also have experience of delivering work within defined structures and timeframes.
