An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly skilled, and motivated registered Practitioner to join main theatre in Freeman Hospital as the Clinical Educator. This role will suit candidates who thrive in roles that include variety, complexity, and challenges alongside opportunities for growth. You must be a Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner to apply for this role and have a vast amount of theatre experience to support staff in developing their advanced skills required to provide effective nursing care. As part of the Clinical Educator team, you will help and support the corporate delivery of education and act as a role model within Newcastle hospitals. The ideal candidate must be able to build relationships with staff at all stages of their career to support them with the development of skills and competencies. You are required to have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and will need to be a highly motivated, committed practitioner who is passionate about delivering high-quality education and guidance. You will provide expert assistance, support, and exercise accountability as set out in the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct. The role will involve a significant amount of innovation, quality improvement, and pathway development alongside the senior theatre team. Main duties of the job
This is a permanent full-time post; however, candidates would be considered for a 12-month secondment. If a secondment, you will need to have agreement from your manager to undertake on a secondment basis before applying.
* The successful applicant will support and deliver initial and ongoing education, training, and CPD within the department to specialist teams.
* The post holder will work with staff to identify learning needs and support opportunities and training to meet those needs; this will include Trust statutory and mandatory training compliance and clinical competency assessment.
* They will also support the Trust departmental governance and patient safety agenda, delivering training to maintain high standards and quality of service.
* The post holder will be required to deliver programmes of study and work collaboratively with educators from all theatre suites. In addition, the successful candidate will actively contribute to the Trust's corporate agenda, working alongside the Trust Practice Development team to contribute to the development of nursing practice Trust-wide.
Job responsibilities
* 37 hours 30 minutes/week
* The successful candidate will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, being able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development with previous post-registration experience which is relevant and recent is required.
* This is a suitable post for an experienced registered nurse/Operating Department Practitioner with established clinical skills, who wishes to further develop practice within the department and Trust-wide.
* When necessary, will act as a mentor/supervisor for staff undertaking formal educational programmes within the clinical environment.
* Develop collaborative working relationships and support strategic developments between all Clinical Educators within the Trust, which will help provide a framework for sharing good practice.
* Contribute to the broader professional debates and developments within the Trust through membership of the Practice Development Group.
* Raise the profile of the Trust at local and national levels.
Person Specification
KNOWLEDGE
* Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding.
* Knowledge and understanding of current relevant NHS policy or project-specific policy context.
* Evidence of developing and leading programmes of education and/or training.
SKILLS
* Ability to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Effective organisation and time management skills and able to work to deadlines.
* Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills, including effective report writing.
* Proven change management skills and practice development.
* Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
EXPERIENCE
* Research or audit experience.
* Extensive post-registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level.
* Experience of working at a senior level in an area requiring a broad range of complex and technically challenging skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Registered Nurse (appropriate to Branch).
* Current NMC Registration.
* Degree/Masters level study, or equivalent relevant specialist study.
* Meets NMC requirements for mentorship if relevant to role.
* Evidence of ongoing professional, personal, and academic development.
