Electrical Engineer – Motors - Submarines
Full Time, On-site.
Location: Derby, Raynesway.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as an Electrical Engineer specialising in Motor Design within Rolls-Royce Submarines. Working within the Technology department, you will support the capability to design and develop motors, particularly at the component, subsystem, and system levels; to bring these designs to fruition and demonstrate conformance of the design to application requirements and standards.
Particular areas of focus will include the E-magnetic circuit, heat transfer and flow analysis, Electro-mechanical & thermomechanical coupling, and machine-inverter interaction.

What you’ll be doing:
* Design and simulate induction electric motors (from a high-level sizing perspective through to detailed prediction of performance and efficiency) and help bring them to manufacture.
* Demonstrate a creative attitude, find new solutions, and investigate current and novel technologies and their application.
* Support commercial, procurement, and the supply chain with technical specifications and supplier liaison.
* Understand and further optimise our in-house motor designs and develop our performance predicted models.
* Develop verification and validation tests to compare experimental and simulation results.
* Understand requirements capture processes.
Who we are looking for:
* Bachelor's degree, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
* Experience relevant to the power electronics discipline; i.e., finite element modelling experience in electro-magnetic and mechanical tools.
* Experience engaging with suppliers and/or manufacturing from a design engineering perspective.
* Ability to write technical reports.
* Ability to work in an agile, cross-functional team.
* Ability to solve problems with simple solutions.
* Awareness of DFMEA, FTA, and other design analysis processes.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.
