Job Summary
Michelham Ward is an acute 21-bedded Gastroenterology ward. Patients treated on the ward have a variety of Gastro needs, such as Crohn's disease, alcoholic hepatitis, eating disorders, malabsorption disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastric cancers, and acute liver diseases. It is also the cohort ward for the Trust for C difficile patients, and we have a dedicated area for looking after bariatric patients.
We are looking for experienced Clinical Support Workers. Hospital experience is desirable but not essential. A minimum of GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4 or Functional skills for English/Maths, Care Certificate, and/or NVQ2 in health and social care or the equivalent role is required. Your role will be to provide delegated clinical procedures such as insertion/removal of cannula, venepuncture, wound assessment and simple dressings, and removal of urinary catheter. Training will be provided. Successful applicants will be required to complete an induction course, which will include all the Trust statutory/mandatory training.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Promote dignity, respect, and privacy in the delivery of care duties.
2. Undertake patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, height, weight, neurological assessment, ECG, respirations, urinalysis, blood glucose, pregnancy testing, and escalate concerns in line with policy.
3. Recognize deteriorating patients and follow the escalation process.
4. Provide delegated clinical procedures such as insertion/removal of cannula, venepuncture, wound assessment, and simple dressings.
5. Work as part of a team and use your own initiative with effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Person Specification
Essential
* GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4 or Functional skills for English/Maths.
* Care Certificate.
* Ability to undertake vital observations and recognize any concerns that require escalation to a registered professional.
Desirable
* Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire, etc.
* Education and training to NVQ level 3/Work-based diploma or equivalent.
* Evidence of development of knowledge and skills relevant to the role.
* Training and competence in clinical tasks relevant to the role, e.g., cannulation, wound care, ECG.
