Job summary The Progress Chaser is essential in supporting the smooth flow of patients through the Acute Medical Unit (AMU). This role involves organizing and facilitating timely investigations, confirming discharge plans, and assisting the flow nurse. The primary focus is on tracking the progress of tasks and processes, identifying any delays, and working closely with various teams and stakeholders to address obstacles. The goal is to ensure a positive patient experience, while supporting safe and efficient discharges. Main duties of the job The post holder will support the AMU Flow Nurse and Nurse in Charge (NIC) in a progress chaser capacity, overseeing the monitoring of the AMU and ED whiteboard to ensure patient flow is efficiently managed. The role involves tracking potential four-hour breaches and liaising with the capacity team to ensure bed availability is effectively managed. Additionally, the post holder will assist with facilitating timely discharges by monitoring any delays in outstanding investigations or treatments that could hinder discharge. They will escalate these delays as necessary to ensure prompt and safe discharges, contributing to the smooth running of the AMU and the overall patient care process.
