Our Opportunity
We currently have an opening in our Systems Engineering job family for a Network Engineer. This role will be primarily working in our current project to renew London Underground's operational network.
As a Network Engineer, you are responsible for developing and designing I/P-based voice/data and video transmission networks and assisting with the development of associated cable infrastructure for the support and delivery of bids, projects, and services.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design and implement solutions, and ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our products, solutions, and services.
This is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from our site in Waterloo, London.
Key Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
1. Produce I/P based voice/data and video transmission designs to customer requirements/specifications
2. Assist with the production of cable infrastructure designs and 50V power supply designs
3. Carry out technical investigations and produce reports
4. Produce survey scopes and reports and carry out surveys where specific knowledge is required
5. Produce 'As Installed' documentation
6. Produce design specifications and service availability calculations
7. Assist with the production of material approval documentation as well as EMC/EMF technical documentation
8. Ensure designs and materials comply with relevant fire regulations
9. Maintain familiarity and comply with all relevant safety/engineering standards
10. Comply with CDM requirements
11. Produce Installation Test Plans in accordance with associated documented processes
12. Check designs/documentation produced by other members of the design team
13. Provide technical support at meetings
14. Meet customer representatives to discuss technical issues
15. Produce technical proposals
16. Prepare cost/time estimates for contract variations
Technical Skills and Experience
Proven network design capabilities in some or all of the following areas:
* I/P & optical based transmission systems
* Serial data comms
* Link layer protocols
* Modems and interface converters
* Video standards
* OSI Model
* Legacy network architecture (SNA, DECNET)
* Network devices
* IP Suite & RFCs
* IP addressing & Internet Registries
* LAN/WAN protocols
* Bridging and routing protocols
* MPLS & BGP
* VPNs
* IANA
* Network security devices & applications
* Authentication schemes
* Encryption techniques
* Tunnelling
* Digital certificates
* Network management systems
* Network synchronisation
Other Technical Skills
* Sound ability to use design tools to produce network designs
* Ability to manage a design through a defined design process
* Good understanding of the engineering lifecycle and its processes
* Working knowledge of project plans
* Working knowledge of Engineering Safety Management
* Ability to manage Configuration control
Human Skills
* Excellent communication skills in all forms and at all levels
* Collaborative and strong working within a multi-disciplined team
* Excellent stakeholder management
What to expect
We aim to complete a two-stage interview process, with at least one of these held in person at our Waterloo office. The interviews will focus separately on technical and behavioural competencies.
