Wheelchair and Orthotics Support Officer

The role of the support officer will be to assist both the wheelchair and orthotic therapists and assistants in delivering high quality, service user centred care. This will mainly involve arranging for wheelchair and orthotics equipment to be sent to or collected by service users in accordance with the therapist's or assistant's instructions and updating patient records accordingly.
Main duties of the job
1. Work closely with multiple departments and external agencies and share information with wider multi-disciplinary team members as required.
2. Maintain accurate record keeping to ensure traceability of patient equipment.
3. Unbox and handle deliveries of orthotic and wheelchair equipment, which may involve assembly of wheelchairs.
4. Raise orders of wheelchair and orthotic equipment and monitor these orders.
5. Contact patients to arrange delivery of equipment ahead of the appointment or ensure they are delivered to the collection location.
6. Collaborate with the team to deliver day-to-day activities that ensure service users' assessed requirements are met in a timely manner.

3. Engage in frequent physical activity when unpacking and storing service user equipment, including moving and handling wheelchairs and accessories.
4. Raise orders of wheelchair and orthotic equipment and monitor these orders.
5. Contact patients to arrange delivery of equipment ahead of the appointment or ensure they are delivered to the collection location.
6. Communicate with patients, including canceling appointments, requiring excellent verbal communication skills.
7. Plan and manage tasks and time to meet the demands of the service.
8. Take responsibility for own actions and participate in performance reviews and personal development planning.
9. Contribute suggestions for quality improvement within the Wheelchair & Orthotics service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Willingness to work towards NVQ level 2.
* NVQ level 2.
Experience
* Experience of independent working and ability to work as part of a team.
* Experience with service user information, ordering systems, and equipment management systems.
Knowledge
* Understanding or awareness of different Wheelchairs, Accessories, and Orthotics products.
Skills
* Good written and numeric skills; attention to detail in checking and recording data.
* Good computer literacy skills: ability to e-mail, input data, and use Microsoft applications.
Communication
* Good listening, verbal, and communication skills.
* Able to provide accurate feedback to colleagues.
