The Senior Duty Manager is central to the Museum’s core operation. Reporting to the Head of Collections and Site Operations, the Senior Duty Manager works on a rota basis alongside the Duty Managers.
The Senior Duty Manager will be responsible for a team of Duty Managers supervising the day-to-day operation of the site with Security, Health & Safety of staff, volunteers, members of the public and other building users always at the forefront, and the highest standards of customer service.
To lead on evacuations as Fire Warden & First Aider.
To support works with other managers in making improvements to the site and general operation of the museum.
Primary Responsibilities
* To lead, train, and motivate a team of Duty Managers to deliver excellent service. A Duty Manager acts as the daily eyes and ears on the ground, ensuring the Museum operates at its best and serving as an ambassador of our values to staff, volunteers, and the public.
* To prepare and keep up-to-date monthly rotas for Duty Managers.
* Be a point of contact to field all queries from Duty Managers.
* Your tools to create a great team are to support every team member in the role and provide engaging shift briefs, ongoing coaching, and a supportive atmosphere.
* Ensuring incidents are logged as ‘Near Misses’ or in the Accident Book and reported under RIDDOR (when necessary).
* To act as a first aider (when qualified).
* As directed by the Head of Collection and Site Operations, complete analysis reports on First Aid, Incident and near miss reports.
* Involvement as necessary in wider museum H&S and safeguarding management.
* To lead on Site Safety induction for all Staff and Volunteers.
Daily Duties
* Act as a Duty Manager on a rota basis, supervising the operation of the site and buildings during the day, normally between 08:30am and 6pm.
* Covering annual leave/sick leave for Duty Managers.
* To successfully manage and assist all Duty Managers in the day-to-day operation of the Museum.
* To understand, maintain, and occasionally write new standard operational procedures and processes required to manage and operate the Museum safely, i.e., emergency evacuation procedures, operation manuals, etc.
* To deliver a daily operations brief to the Duty Manager, taking into account the requirements of other departments in ensuring excellent visitor experience is being delivered by various departments in their daily programmes.
* To support the Maintenance and Curatorial Team in ensuring the functionality and aesthetic appearance of the Museum site and buildings therein.
* To provide input and support to the Admissions, Learning, Curatorial and Event teams in the delivery of key outputs such as Schools, Group visits & Museum events.
* To support the Maintenance Team in ensuring the security of the Museum by monitoring and controlling key proliferation.
* Conducting site walk rounds throughout the day to monitor the quality of the visitor experience and facilities.
* Responding to a wide range of scenarios and being the key decision maker when Senior Leadership are not onsite.
* Attend staff meetings as required.
* The duties and responsibilities in this job are not restrictive, and the post holder may be required to, on occasion, undertake other responsibilities. This will not substantially change the nature of the post.

* Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills.
* A proven record of delivering high-quality customer care, has Venue/Duty management experience, or experience in Front of House duties within a theatre & or education setting.
* Direct experience in line management of staff paid/unpaid & organisation of rotas.
* An understanding of relevant Health and Safety areas, taking appropriate responsibility and action.
* A true team worker, with a willingness to “get stuck in” and to help other departments as required.
* Ability to work within a team or autonomously.
* The ability to deal with the public in a calm and confident manner.
* Multi-skilled with a flexible, dependable, proactive and can-do approach.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, using own initiative and without supervision.
* Excellent IT skills using Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
* First aid certificate would be an advantage but not an initial requirement. (Training will be provided).
