Premier Forest Products is seeking a Transport Coordinator to join our Mon Timber branch in Newport. As a leading timber merchant committed to delivering high-quality products nationwide, we are looking for an experienced and highly organised individual to oversee our logistics and transportation operations within this branch. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transport coordination, preferably within the timber or building materials industry, and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and cost-effective movement of goods from our branch to customers and other depots.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensuring all vehicles are maintained regularly, meeting legal requirements, and they are safe to operate.
• Monitoring the use of vehicles using telematics and GPS systems to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensuring the fleet complies with all relevant laws and regulations, including vehicle safety, driver hours, and environmental standards.
• Managing licenses, permits, and certifications for vehicles and drivers.
• Implementing safety protocols and ensuring that the transport operations adhere to health and safety regulations.
• Route planning, optimising routes for efficiency, cost, and timely delivery.
• Coordinating vehicle and driver schedules to meet the demands of the business.
• Coordinating with the yard to prioritise orders, ensuring timely picking for delivery.
• Driver management, recruiting, training, and supervising drivers, including managing their schedules and performance.
• Maintaining good relationships with clients and ensuring their transport needs are met.
• Addressing any transport-related issues that arise, including delays, accidents, or customer complaints.
• Contributing to the overall business strategy with insights from transport operations.
• Continuously improving transport processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Exploring new technologies and methodologies to improve transport operations.
Requirements:
• Proven experience as a Transport Coordinator or in a similar role within the timber, building materials, or logistics industry.
• Strong knowledge of transport regulations and legal requirements.
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Experience in fleet management and route planning.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Computer literate with the ability to navigate our systems, emails, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• A valid CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is desirable but not necessary.
