Swift Veterinary Referrals are accepting applicants from veterinary surgeons with a passion for Emergency & Critical Care to join our fantastic OOH team. This position is based at our multidisciplinary referral hospital in Wetherby and is perfect for those seeking a better work/life balance or a new professional challenge.
About the role
This role provides an interesting and diverse mix of consulting, first-opinion emergency surgery/procedures and inpatient care. The role would be predominantly sole charge on-site, but there is always support from our on-call referral clinicians, who are just at the end of the phone. You will also be supported by our talented and experienced nursing team, most of whom have many years’ experience and further qualifications in emergency and critical care.
This position involves working within our emergency hospital running our first opinion out-of-hours service, as well as assisting our Referral Clinicians to provide round-the-clock gold standard care to our inpatients.

Our diagnostic equipment includes a 1.5T siemens MRI scanner, 128 slice GE CT scanner, doppler ultrasound and endoscopy.
Most importantly, we have a large team of talented veterinary professionals including: our referral clinicians, which are led by two European Specialists; hospital clinicians who support our referral departments and run our out-of-hours service; nursing and ACA teams who provide gold standard care to our patients; and our client care team, who provide our clients with the best service.
We are committed to the wellbeing and development of our team and regularly have in-house CPD sessions as well as fun team building activities and treats.
Working Out of Hours Doesn’t Mean Working All Hours
Our typical night vet rota consists of 7 nights on, 14 nights off on a rolling basis. However, as part of our commitment to support individual and flexible working patterns, where appropriate, we would be happy to discuss alternative schedules including a mix of day and night shifts if desired.
Applicant Requirements
We are looking for people who thrive in a fast-paced, challenging yet supportive environment, where first class patient care is at the core of everything we do. Previous experience in out of hours, specifically within a referral setting, would be advantageous.
